I love using my mind to solve problems. Therefore, aerospace engineering came easy to me. As a child, I dreamed of becoming an astronaut. I was too tall to be a pilot – let alone an astronaut. So, I pivoted to the dream of building rockets instead. However, in my third year, my professor helped me to see that engineering included built-in obsolesce. I woke up to the fact that I would have to spend my life in front of a computer, designing things that that would break down on schedule. This is how engineers keep themselves employed What a shocking realization! This wasn’t what I signed up for!
While at Utah State University (USU) I taught cooking classes for my friends. Classes went from four to 10 to 25 and finally exploded to 65 people. Everyone enjoyed learning to cook together. On my church mission in Texas, I talked to people every day. My greatest joy was meeting and helping people. And, teaching was a natural outgrowth of that joy.
As with any life, challenging times did come. I lost a lot of weight. As a result, my mental health deteriorated. After months of struggling in isolation, a great friend reached out to help me to understand my condition. Seeking professional help later, I was diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), anxiety, and OCD. So, turning to a specialist in Las Vegas I obtained the help I needed to stabilize my mind again. Sadly, the results of various medications led to a weight gain of 105 lbs., in less than a year. At least my mind was “turned on” again. And, I was mentally stable through medication.
Now, I really wanted to help people through my newfound passion for health. My search led to massage therapy school. Where I found an immense spirit and energy for healing, I knew this was the next path for me. Completing the massage therapy program, I got my national license in therapeutic massage and a Master’s degree in bodywork. Now armed with a license and experience I knew I wanted to provide therapy for medicine and sports.
I moved to Sparks, Nevada where I started my own business Clover B Massage and went to work with Chiropractic Dr. Brent Roelofs. I have worked in his office for 8 years, regaining a love for health and healing. While in Sparks, I noticed a red flag when a friend of mine mentioned to me that her boyfriend had killed himself. I felt nothing from this experience. Sadly, the depression medications had numbed parts of my brain. So, being unable to fully comprehend that experience was devastating to me. I had also noticed this had limited my ability to help people through my massage therapy.
As I searched for a better way, I met with an amazing wellness coach who specialized in nutrition as well as being an outstanding psychologist. Working together, she helped ween me off the medication while through nutrition helped me detox and stabilize my body’s chemistry. Since then, I have been able to pinpoint the triggers and food related therapies to help stabilize my depression. Now, looking back at almost seven years, I have not had to use any medication to stabilize my mental health.
Dr. Roelofs further inspired me with his ability to heal as a medical professional. This led to a desire to become some sort of medical professional. I considered either becoming a medical doctor or a doctor of osteopath. With the knowledge and blessing of nutrition in my own life, I completed a nutrition science degree to prepare for medical school. Again, my knowledge was tested when a friend came to me with a nutrition related problem. She had been diagnosed with bulimia nervosa. While I understood this type of disease through my education in abnormal psychology; but had no idea how to help.
I turned to my academic advisor Karen Felton, who advised me to talk with Dr. Lorraine Platka-Bird. She is a well-renowned dietitian, PhD, and one of the founding members of the Center for Hope. This amazing clinic helped people with eating disorders and other food-related mental health problems. I learned about intuitive eating, how to listen to your body’s internal cues of hunger and satiety. Going in, I was just hoping to help my friend. By no means was I planning to become a dietitian. However, after two years of experience at the Center for Hope, I realized I had a passion for it.
I soon found out that I could do a dietetic internship if I had completed just a few more courses. So system I reenrolled as a double major, to complete my requirements for Dietetics. I traveled to China for 10 weeks for an amazing educational experience with cooking classes, Chinese education, and medical research into Nano technology.
Upon returning home, I was accepted into UNR’s Dietetic program. Through this program, I have gained experience at the VA hospital, Saint Mary’s Hospital, WIC education, and UNR weight management clinic. During this time while managing my own business as a medical in sports, rehab Massage Therapist.
Soon, I will be a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. My next step is to expand my business to Clover B Life, which I am planning to bring together a team of people to provide a healing environment; with a long-term dream of creating treatment centers to provide help for people in need.

When Brandon asked if I would help him get clover B Life up and running, I was thrilled! How exciting to be at the start of something I believe in with all my heart.

At the age of 19 I started having joint issues the cause of which my doctors did not understand. Years of tests, pain, and weight gain and they finally figured it out. I have hashimotos disease. With a change of diet and medicine I have overcome my physical limitations.
